NEW VIEWER FAQ
THE BASICS
So how much are these live streams
going to cost me to watch?
NADA CENT!It's free to do!
WHO ARRRE these people?
THEY are over 60 channels that are
every day people like you and me
picking up a camera and sharing out
the magic of Walt DisneyWorld live
mostly for the fun of it.
Is this legal?
Won't they be arrested?
Does Disney World know about this?
Yes, it's legal. No, they won't be arrested.Yes, Disney knows.Live streaming is okay by Disney.
They see it as a combination
free advertising and easy publicity.
Like and subscribe?
Why? How? What's the catch?
'Likes' help the channel
get noticed on YouTube.Subscribing to a channel gets you
alerts when the channel you
subscribe to goes live or
posts something new on their channel.Several channels also have benefits
for becoming a channel 'member'.Think of it like a club you join.
Is this their job?
For some, but for most, no.
Well, then how do they get paid?
YouTube pays channels with a complicated,
not so clear mathematical percentage
based on view, clicks and other
assorted voodoo that they are
usually (always) modifying or changing. But channels ONLY get paid
after they have reached
a setnumber of streams created,
a set number of streams viewed
as well as having attained
a set number of subscribers...All 'set' numbers are decided
by YouTube. Then if the channel meets YouTube's
requirements at that time
they become eligible to get paid.And... it ain't all that much.Long story longer, no channel
is joining the billionaires club
from livestreaming. This is why many channels accept ads
on their channel, sell merch for their channel
and have subscriptions to become
members of their channel. These things help defray the costs
of maintaining a channel.
I see donations being given in chat.
Do I have to do that?
No.Generous viewers may give channels
they enjoy donations out of their appreciation
for the channel and what they
are doing. It's a nice way to thank them for
bringing the magic of Disney World
as a monetary gift.Certain channels do offer several ways to
donate money if a viewer is so inclined:YouTube has a pay button in chat,
while other channels utilize
pay sites such as Patreon, PayPal, Venmo. Many channels offer benefits to
members who subscribe to their channel.
Special emojis, member exclusive shows,
prizes, extras!
Where do the donations go?
The money goes to the channels.
AFTER YouTube takes its cut.Remember,
channels cost the streamers money. And more. Not just dollars, but time and sweat.Passes to the parks, cameras, gimbals,
food, gas, sneakers worn out from
miles of walking, chiropractor bills for
sore backs, sore shoulders can
all add up to a very expensive 'hobby'
for most livestream channels. In short, live streaming WDW
is more an act of generosity
than a fast way to make money.Be a friend and good viewer by
supporting the channels you enjoy
with a like and subscribe to
your favorites!
CHAT RULES
and terms you may hear in chat
Lag, Time Travel. Stuck.
Live streaming depends on a phone
connection to get the pictures and
sound to you.Sometimes it doesn't work flawlessly.Larger crowds all using their phones,
certain areas on a ride where
connections are not ideal or
dead reception areas in the parks
can cause the live stream
to freeze or stop altogether. Some call it lag.
Others time travel.
Frozen.Whatever the slang, it happens.Just think of it as a temporary blank spot,
like when your phone loses
connections in tunnels, etc. It's going to happen now and then.Guaranteed.Remain calm and 9-1/2 times out of 10
the stream will reconnect and return.
Participate.
Don't be shy! Join in chat!Chat is always more fun with
more viewers chatter-ing!Come on in and just say hi.It's easy to make friends.Livestreaming is as much about the
friends you make in chat as it is
about riding the rides and seeing
Walt Disney World live.Truly.
Mind the mods.
So what's a mod?Short for moderator, that name
in chat with the blue wrench aside
of it.They are the ones given super powers
by the channel's host to
make sure that the chat participants
stay within the bounds of limits
set by the channel's host. Most are family friendly. Most are meant to 'be a happy place
that all are welcome.'Step out of line, be a jerk and flame
someone or something,
and it will be a mod that will first delete
your comment and then delete you
from participating in the channel's
chat if it is deemed you are not playing nice.So chat nice!
Gim-ball.
Something Gumby plays with?
Nope.Gimbals are what the live streamers
use to hold their camera to keep
the stream level and steady. It auto-magically balances
the stream while they walk and talk
while holding a camera on a stick.Basically it helps viewers not get seasick.
What's a Ninja-Watcher?
Ninja watcher.
Lurker.
Silent majority.Names given to those who watch
but don't chat or chime in.It's okay to not chat.
Really.
Lots of viewers leave the streams
on in the background. But you will hear the mods or
people in chat remind these
silent watchers to remember
to hit the Like button and
subscribe even if they aren't
in a chatty mood... because
it helps the channel!
NO CAPS. STOP IT.
Typing in all caps is the equivalent of
screaming.Loudly.Besides being rude... it aggravates
viewers who are visually impaired and
have the chat read aloud to them
by their software.Capital letters typed in a row
are read individually to them.Out loud.Individual letter by each individual letter.Annoying.And rude to those people. So think before you type in caps
to 'yell'.
We heard you the first time.
Asking for rides, times and other
questions is okay.Once. Maybe again.Just in case the host 'missed it'.But hammering the chat with
your question or thought every
3 lines of chat isn't okay.
And a great way to get timed out
by a moderator. The host can read and
is already doing the best they
can to answer chat while
simultaneously:
- holding all their equipment
- managing to not get run over
by strollers, guests or worse.Like benches, poles or trash cans.
Curbs are no fun either. They will get to chat somehow
between juggling all that,
in due time, as they can.
What's the big deal with 'copyright'?
Ah... dreaded copyright.Certain songs and certain films
and certain rides are copyrighted
by their certain
(and sometimes many)
owners. That means if a live streamer captures
music, rides or film (intentionally or
even just in the background)
that happens to be copyrighted...YouTube will take down their live stream.Sometimes immediately.Meaning... no views, no likes,
no pay for the channel.Livestreamers are always avoiding
and/or on the lookout for anything that
looks, sounds or smells like a
copyrighted thing.Sometimes they will mute the channel
to avoid risk of copyright.Sometimes they won't/can't go on a ride
(see: any universal park). But no matter what they do
copyright happens.It's everywhere.
More questions?
Just ask the chat.
They can usually answer anything.
And usually do.But first and foremost:
